Achieve & maintain
your desired weight

Functional weight loss is a holistic approach to weight management that focuses on the root causes of weight gain and overall health improvement. At OMA, this program combines personalized GLP-1 weight loss medications, MIC and B12 injections, and functional consultations every three months. Our approach emphasizes movement, exercise, and protein intake to avoid side effects and enhance effectiveness. By addressing the underlying factors of weight gain and providing continuous support, we help you achieve sustainable results.

How does the functional weight loss program work?

GLP-1 weight loss medications

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) weight loss medications like Semaglutide work by mimicking the action of the natural hormone GLP-1, which is involved in appetite regulation and insulin secretion. These medications help reduce hunger and increase feelings of fullness, leading to lower calorie intake and weight loss. Furthermore, they also slow down gastric emptying, which means food stays in the stomach longer after each meal, which helps curb overeating. These mechanisms of action work together to help you control your diet and lose weight.

MIC and B12 injections

MIC injections contain a combination of methionine, inositol, and choline, essential nutrients that aid in fat metabolism and liver health. Methionine is an amino acid that helps break down fats, inositol aids in fat distribution and metabolism, and choline prevents fat accumulation in the liver. B12 injections boost energy levels, support red blood cell formation, and enhance neurological function. Together, these injections optimize the body’s ability to burn fat and maintain energy levels during weight loss, helping you boost the results of your efforts.

Mandatory functional consultations

Every three months, you must undergo a mandatory functional consultation focused on your overall health and wellness. These 20-minute consultations include a review of basic lab tests such as CBC, CMP, and lipid panels. They are designed to monitor your progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and ensure that any underlying health issues are addressed. Conducted by Dr. TJO or Dr. DJO, these sessions provide personalized medical guidance to support sustainable and effective weight loss.

Tailored lifestyle recommendations

In addition to medical treatments, our program emphasizes tailored lifestyle recommendations. You receive guidance on movement and exercise to enhance metabolic rate and muscle mass. Furthermore, your protein intake is carefully calculated to prevent muscle loss and promote satiety. We may also recommend supplements or prescription medications to counteract any side effects of GLP-1 medications. This comprehensive approach ensures that you receive holistic care, addressing the physical and behavioral aspects of weight loss.

SECA Body Comp

The SECA mBCA body composition analyzer is an integral part of our functional weight loss program at Origins Medicine & Aesthetics. This advanced tool provides precise measurements of fat mass, muscle mass, and water distribution. By analyzing body composition in detail, the SECA system helps personalize your weight loss plan, ensuring that treatment is optimized based on individual body metrics. This allows for more accurate progress tracking and better health outcomes as you work toward your weight loss goals.

Longevity and Muscle Preservation with SECA Body Composition Analysis

As part of our commitment to longevity and overall wellness, we prioritize building and preserving muscle mass, especially during weight loss. Maintaining muscle is essential not only for a healthy metabolism but also for supporting strength, mobility, and long-term vitality.

To ensure your progress aligns with these goals, we’ve introduced the SECA body impedance device. This advanced tool provides precise measurements of your body composition, allowing us to track your muscle mass, fat percentage, and overall body water levels. With regular assessments, we can make data-driven adjustments to your weight loss program, ensuring that muscle is preserved while you achieve your optimal health and fitness.

Functional Weight Loss FAQs

What to expect as a side effect?

Some common side effects of GLP-1 medications include nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and decreased appetite. These side effects are usually mild and temporary and often improve as your body adjusts to the medication. If you experience persistent or severe side effects, we can recommend supplements or prescribe medications to counteract these effects.

Where to inject myself?

GLP-1 injections should be administered subcutaneously (under the skin). The recommended injection sites include the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. It’s important to rotate the injection sites to prevent skin irritation. Follow the specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider on the proper technique and site rotation.

How to clean the site?

Before injecting, clean the injection site with an alcohol swab or antiseptic wipe. Allow the area to dry completely, and ensure your hands are clean before handling the medication and injection supplies. This helps maintain a sterile environment and prevents contamination.

How to dispose of needles?

Used needles should be disposed of in a puncture-resistant sharps container. Do not throw needles in the regular trash or recycling bin. If you don’t have a designated sharps container, use a heavy-duty plastic container, such as a detergent bottle, with a tight-fitting lid. Once the container is full, follow local regulations for disposal, which may include returning it to a healthcare facility or a drop-off site.

What movement exercise is best?

Incorporating regular physical activity into your routine is crucial for weight loss and overall health. The best exercises include a combination of aerobic activities (like walking, jogging, or cycling) and strength training (like weight lifting or resistance exercises). Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity and two or more days of strength training per week. We can curate a personalized exercise plan that suits your fitness level and health goals.
